Software Notes: Square Co., Ltd. (株式会社スクウェア) was founded in September 1986 by Masafumi Miyamoto. The company was a independent continuation of Denyusya Square Co., Ltd., which Miyamoto had founded in 1983 as a subsidiary of Denyusya Co., Ltd., a power line construction company owned by his father. In 2003, Square merged with their long-time RPG-making rival, Enix Corporation, creating Square Enix Co., Ltd.
