Tape recorder - life cycle

Hi2All, this is the second time it happens... Another tape recorder has some troubles with output volume. After many years in reading tapes, now volume is very very low and tapes are unreadable from MSX. I don't know what causes this problem: - volume adjut system is exhausted? - magnetized head? I have already tried to clean head mechanically but with no results... I'm very worried if head is magnetized, because it can damage tapes. So I will wait before preserving next software in schedule. I've never had this problem with my Philips NMS 1510, my Sony SDC-600S or the built in Sony SDC-500 in the HB-501P... Are you doing something special or do you use bad quality tape recorders? Or something else?

Hi Manuel, this is the tape I use: Philips NMS-1520 http://msx.altervista.org/img/1chiptape.jpg Strangely, things changed when I preserved software from a BASF tape (the one I sent to you by email for a evaluation). Do long tapes or special magnetic material tapes could "stress" heads? Or heavly magnetize them? In this case, are there some actions to do quickly? For example, touch head with metal?
